In this article we will show what people chips are in google sheets. We also explain how to easily use them in different scenarios. Simply follow the steps below:
People chips, also known as Smart chips in Google Sheets, enable you to label relevant individuals in your spreadsheets.
One application of this feature is when managing task assignments for a team in a project using Google Sheets. Utilizing people chips makes it more efficient to organize projects and tasks.
Select the cell where you want to insert the people chip.
When you type the ampersand symbol @, a list will immediately appear, where you can insert people, files, and events.
The list of users will appear at the top. If the list is short enough, you can jump directly to the next step. Otherwise, you need to start typing the email address to narrow down the list until you find the user to tag in the sheet.
Once you find the user, click their email. The cell will be filled by the people chip with the name of the tagged user.
The user tagged using a people chip may not have access to the sheet that you use. A pop-up window will appear where Google Sheets asks you if you want to grant access to the user.
Click Share if you want to give the user access to the spreadsheet.
This prompt will not show up if the tagged user already has access to the Google Sheets spreadsheet.
A drop-down list will appear listing actions you can do to the cell.
The Smart chips option is found near the end of the drop-down list. Click it.
You can insert People, Files, and Calendar events. Select People.
A list of users you can tag will appear. Scroll down until you find the right user.\
Alternatively, you can type the email address or the name of the user to tag until the list shows the one you want to tag.

No. If you try to do so by holding the Ctrl button to select several cells, Google Sheets will only insert the people chips at the last selected cell.
Simply type @me to the selected cell. Your name will appear on the sheet.
