Removing whitespace in Google Sheets can clean up your data which makes it easier to analyze, present, and ensure accuracy in calculations. Follow the steps below to remove unnecessary or extra spaces in Google Sheets.
Select the cells that contain whitespace you want to remove. You can click and drag to select multiple cells or click on a single cell if you're focusing on one spot.
With your cells selected, open the "Find and Replace" tool. Go to the "Edit" menu and choose "Find and replace" from the dropdown options.
In the "Find and Replace" dialog box, enter a space in the "Find" field to look for whitespaces. Leave the "Replace with" field empty to remove the spaces entirely.
Make sure the "Search" option is set to "Specific range" if you've selected specific cells. To remove whitespaces in the entire sheet, you can choose "All sheets."
Click "Replace all" to remove all instances of whitespace in your selected range. Google Sheets will then remove the spaces and tell you how many replacements it made.
After removing the spaces, close the "Find and Replace" dialog. Click the "Close" button or the "X" at the top right of the dialog box.
