In this article we will show you how to collapse rows in google sheets to organize and manage your data in just a few simple steps.

How to Collapse Rows in Google Sheets

For the purpose of this demonstration an example data set was created. Click here to access the sample sheet and follow along at home.

Step 1: Select the Rows to Collapse

In your data select the rows you want to collapse. 

If the rows are next to each other you can simply click on the label of the first target row and drag over the other rows. 

If the rows are apart from each other then you need to press and hold the Ctrl key (or Cmd key on Mac) down and click the rows separately. 

In our example we will collapse the rows of all people with a score less than 50 so we can see only the people with a higher score.

Step 2: Right Click and Select Hide rows 

Right click the last selected row label. From the menu select Hide Rows to collapse the rows

Step 3: See the Results

The rows are now collapsed, you can now see the selected rows have been collapsed with an indicator appearing next to the row labels showing the double arrow symbol ↕ 

To show the collapsed rows again, click the double arrow symbol.
