Creating a content calendar in Google Sheets is a fantastic way to organize your publishing schedule, whether you're managing social media, a blog, or any other type of content. Here's how to do it:
At the top of your columns, label them for the dates and details you want to track. For example:
A1: "Date"
B1: "Content Topic"
C1: "Status (e.g., Planned, In Progress, Completed)"
D1: "Channel (e.g., Blog, Twitter, LinkedIn)"
E1: "Notes"
To format date columns, click on the "Date" column (A:A in our example), then go to "Format" > "Number" > "Date" to ensure your dates are correctly formatted.
To standardize entries, you can create dropdown lists. Select the cells in the "Status" column, click "Data" > "Data validation".
Click "Add rule".
Choose "Dropdown" and enter your statuses. Click "Done."
Tip: To see your content in a calendar view, manually create a grid that represents a month, with days as columns and weeks as rows. Enter your content under the appropriate days. This requires a bit more manual setup but can be visually helpful.
Start filling in your calendar with the content you plan to publish. Enter the date, content topic, current status, channel for each piece of content, and any relevant notes.
