A cap table template for Google Sheets is useful for managing equity ownership, facilitating investment decisions, and supporting startup growth and valuation.

How to Use the Google Sheets Cap Table Template

Follow the steps below to use the Google Sheets cap table template. 

1. Enter Company Name and Shareholder Names

Replace the default names with your company name and the real names of your company's shareholders.

These could be founders, employees, or investors.

If your company has more people in any category, add rows where they fit. For example, if you have a third founder, click on the row under "Founder #2" and insert a new row there. 

2. Fill in Common Shares

For each shareholder, enter how many common shares they have. Only change the cells with a green background.

3. Add Options Details

If people have options, put the number in the options column. Remember, options are like promises for shares in the future.

4. Input Series A Investments

In the Series A column, write how much money each investor put in. This part is important for understanding how much of the company they own.

5. Set Price and Preferences

Confirm the price per share for Series A. Also, decide if these shares have special rights, like getting money back first in a sale.

6. Double-Check Formulas

Make sure all the formulas in the sheet are correct. They automatically calculate totals and percentages based on your inputs. Look over your cap table to make sure everything is right. 

7. Consult with Experts

If things get complicated, it might be a good idea to talk to a lawyer or accountant. They can help make sure your cap table is set up properly.
