In this tutorial, we will show you exactly how to add a goal line in Google Sheets in just a few simple steps. Simply follow the steps below.
Follow the steps below to put a goal or target line on a chart in Google Sheets.
Start by locating and opening the Google Sheets document that contains your data. Make sure you have the sheet with your dataset ready to be worked on.
Click on "Insert" in the menu at the top of the screen. From the drop-down menu, select "Chart." This will create a default chart based on the data from your sheet.
Click on the chart to open the "Chart editor" on the right. Under the "Setup" tab, locate the "Chart type" option and change it to "Combo chart" or whichever chart type best fits your data. Google Sheets will automatically arrange the data in the chart.
Under the "Customize" tab in the "Chart editor," click on "Series." Select your goal line from the drop-down menu and customize its style, such as changing its color or making the line dashed, to differentiate it from your data.
Here, you can select "Line dash type" to make the goal line more distinct.
Once you’re satisfied with the chart and the appearance of your goal line, exit the chart editor by clicking “X”. Ensure all changes are saved in your Google Sheets document.
The goal line should now be clearly visible.
